1.
Trauma and Difficult Memories
Whether a single incident or years of suffering, I have built my career around assisting clients with healing from their past.
I am certified in the use of eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).
2.
Play Therapy for Children
Volunteering with children was my inspiration for becoming a therapist. Improving a child's trajectory is my passion.
Play therapy can assist children with emotional regulation, social skills, self-esteem, negative behaviors, and more.
I see children starting at age 4, inviting them to experience safety with unconditional acceptance.
3.
Marriage and Relationships
So many couples approach with the goal of "improving communication." While a noble goal, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to increase a couple's understanding of each other and derail negative cycles.
No approach can guarantee a couple stays together. But, when effective, EFT de-escalates conflict and improves connection.
4.
Family Therapy
A type of Emotionally Focused Therapy is Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Similar to work with couples, EFFT increases understanding between family members and de-escalates cycles of conflict.
Unique to EFFT is holding adults to account for their particular role in negative cycles, while the whole family learns to derail the cycle.
My Approach
I believe everyone is doing the best they can with what they know.
By offering safety and curiosity, we can both reach that "ah-ha" moment, knowing "of course, that makes sense" behind your thoughts, feelings, and actions.
About me
Rodrigo Cañedo
Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Supervisor
I entered social work to serve my neighbors and, aside from our hot, humid summers, I love my hometown (technically, I was born in Pasadena).
I volunteer at Bo’s Place (20+ years). I love spending time with my family: my wife, my mother, brother, and two nephews.
Aside from my private practice, I work as a contractor two days a week with survivors of family violence and their children.
